Two Pilots in Training

The companion song for my June 2013 article “Ace and Jack” in Airways magazine.

Two Pilots in Training (without backing vocals)
– Words by Mark L Berry & Music by Plain White Toast
– Performed by Plain White Toast

Lyrics

(v1)
Where the rubber meets the road
There’s no room for mistakes
Every landing needs to be more than OK

But in simulator mode
I have a button for re-takes
And their hard landings can always be re-played

(chorus)
Two pilots in training
Always competing
Only one can be ace of the base

Two pilots flying
Both of them trying
To keep up as I quicken the pace

(v2)
Heavy winds and rain
I can dial up at will
But the object isn’t to make them both sweat

Our goal is to train
There’s no magic pill
But in here their mistakes I reset

(chorus)
Two pilots in training
Always competing
Only one can be ace of the base

Two pilots flying
Both of them trying
To keep up as I quicken the pace

(bridge)
The crosswinds get stronger
The hours seem longer
The airplane’s a handful
And finally they’re thankful

(v3)
When this session is done
And they pack up their charts
One of them might brag a bit

But the braggin’s just for fun
If they’ve both scored high marks
And they’ve stored these lessons in their kits
